hello A SKULL IN CONNEMARA @ NONE TOO FRAGILE - hub

Through April 1, 2017
(330) 671-4563

Roy Berko

Partake in the free shot of Jamison, which is the hallmark of the pre-show ritual at none-too-fragile, sit back, and allow yourself to be immersed in an Irish black comedy, complete with skull battering, blunt language and a wee bit of fun.

To see a full review of this show, read Roy Berko's blog here.

Mark Horning

If you like your theater with a heavy Irish brogue and freewheeling insults and cursing, this work that borders on sacrilegious is for you. The story and characters are engaging and the mystery holds up well to the very end. Have a jigger of Jamison on the house and enjoy a bit of Irish whimsy.

"A Skull In Connemara" is a sick play.  But this black comedy by Martin McDonagh sure is a funny one at None Too Fragile in Akron’s Merriman Valley. The Irish-English playwright is famous for his vicious but hilarious brand of humor, and Skull does not disappoint on that front.

"A Skull in Connemara" has the most convoluted script produced by the none too fragile (NTF) theater in a long time.  The play is part comedy and part serious drama.

At face value, a play about a 600-pound recluse who’s slowly eating himself to death sounds miserable. Granted, Charlie’s story is a sad one. But Robert Ellis brings a lovingness and nobility to his character that is uplifting, as the dying man forms a fragile community of people who care about each other.

If you are a fan of shows that deliver hard hitting emotion, this is the one show you will not want to miss. You will find yourself drawn in to a swirling cauldron of despair, anger, self pity and addiction. After seeing this show you are guaranteed to feel better about your life by comparison no matter what.

Much like its protagonist, in this play there is a wonderful entity struggling to fight its way out of the smothering confines in which it finds itself. And this production only succeeds in fits and starts.

hello ANNAPURNA @ NONE TOO FRAGILE - hub

November 4 through 19, 2016

Bob Abelman

Sharr White’s fractured, one-act treatment of Homer’s 8thcentury BCE poem “The Odyssey” is getting a beautifully performed but anemically designed production at none too fragile.

To see a full review of this show, read Bob Abelman's CJN article here.

Roy Berko

ANNAPURNA is the tale of two highly damaged people, caught in an impossible climb to the top of an impregnable mountain, confronting their damaged lives.

To see a full review of this show, read Roy Berko's blog here.

Kerry Clawson

Outstanding Equity actors Jeffrey Grover and Derdriu Ring unpack all the emotional baggage that these two badly damaged people possess. They vividly portray the resentment and recriminations that have built up for so long, making the tragedy of this couple feel very real yet at the same time bringing into shocking focus the power of forgiveness.

Mark Horning

For those looking for a really adult night out look no further than this performance.  From the opening scene with male nudity to the profanity and frank discussion of spousal abuse and death this is no Disney production suitable for the entire family. It is abrupt, sharp, concise and in parts extremely funny. This show is for people who don’t mind a bit of shock value with their theater.

To see a full review of this show, read Mark Horning's blog.

Despite two fine performances and apart from the promising opening, this production as directed by Sean Derry lacks the necessary sizzle, sausage-wise and otherwise.

Ring and Grover, two the area's best actors, are superb, able to navigate the humor and pathos of their characters with the skill of seasoned climbers.

hello THE WHIPPING MAN @ NONE TOO FRAGILE - hub

September 23 through October 8, 2016
(330) 671-4563

Roy Berko

When THE WHIPPING MAN ran at the Cleveland Play House several seasons ago, I said it was “required viewing by anyone who wants to experience theater at its finest.”  If you missed that production, or you want revisit the script in similar spellbinding splendor, rush to none too fragile.  This production is as mesmerizing as was the other local staging.  Applause, applause!

To see a full review of this show, read Roy Berko's blog here.

Kerry Clawson

Matthew Lopez’s THE WHIPPING MAN is a fascinating story about the complex and contradictory relationships between newly freed slaves and their masters right at the end of the Civil War. ... David Lemoyne’s excellent portrayal of the faithful Simon is the backbone of this tense drama. His elder slave represents the voice of both faith and reason to younger slave John as well as the master’s son, Confederate soldier Caleb.

By drawing the similarities between the ex-slaves and the wealthy Jewish family that owned them, the play opens an interesting door on race relations.

none too fragile’s ‘Sans Merci’ is a hard to watch, must-see drama.

Roy Berko

none too fragile continues to astound with the high quality of their productions.  They tend to pick meaningful scripts and give them very proficient staging.  Sans Merci insures a roller coaster of emotion and is an absolutely must see!

One of the main reasons why theater artists create is to connect with audiences emotionally. Sans Merci does so on such a visceral level, we come away from the show feeling emotionally wiped out.

hello THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE@NONE TOO FRAGILE - hub

April 22 through May 7, 2016
330-671-4563

Roy Berko

THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE is a first-class Irish play, by a very talented modern “Mick” writer.  The none too fragile production is finely-directed and performed.  This is one of the top area productions of the season and is a definite must see!

To see a full review of this show, read Roy Berko's blog here.

Kerry Clawson

Irish playwright Martin McDonagh is a master at bringing to life petty power struggles between family members, often over the most mundane issues.  None Too Fragile has embraced his extreme black humor repeatedly in the last several years, currently with the dark comedy THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE. The play features fiery Equity actress Derdriu Ring in her None Too Fragile debut as the lonely, plain Maureen Folan, who is in her 40s.

To see a full review of this show, read Kerry Clawson's review here.

Christine Howey

It’s a nearly perfect little, bruised world these four talented actors create, brimming with disappointment, small-minded carping, startling cruelty and shattered dreams. And it’s staged in None Too Fragile’s intimate space, where you can feel every jab and jolt.

hello A KID LIKE JAKE @ NONE TOO FRAGILE THEATER - hub

Through March 26, 2016

Bob Abelman

‘A Kid Like Jake’ is a captivating, contemporary Cinderella story.

To see a full review of this show, read Bob Abelman's CJN article here.

Roy Berko

A KID LIKE JAKE is a well-developed, thought-provoking script, centering on the contemporary topics of gender identity, parental relationships, and the controversy of nature versus nurture.  The acting is excellent.  It is the type of production that incites discussion and will be appealing to a thinking audience.

To see a full review of this show, read Roy Berko's blog here.

Kerry Clawson

In A KID LIKE JAKE, Rachel Lee Kolis gives a heartbreaking performance as stressed-out mom Alex, willfully blind to who her child really is even though she professes to know him best. Sensitively directed by Sean Derry at None Too Fragile Theater, the play presents a raw, often harrowing tale of the great pressure moneyed, anxious parents put on themselves to make the right decisions for their youngsters.

To see a full review of this show, read Kerry Clawson's review here.

Christine Howey

Director Sean Derry has summoned a talented cast to handle this 100-minute production, but even the best efforts of these accomplished actors can't overcome Pearle's talky script, one that only strikes sparks near the very end.

hello PURE SHOCK VALUE - hub

none too fragile theater
January 29-February 13, 2016
330-671-4563 or go to nonetoofragile.com

Bob Abelman

There is certainly no shortage of satires of the Hollywood industry, but none do it with comedy that is blacker or more profane than Matt Pelfrey’s “Pure Shock Value,” a little-traveled, fringe-festival favorite written in 2009. And it is safe to say that few will do it better than none too fragile theater in Akron.
To see a full review of this show, read Bob Abelman's CJN article here.

Roy Berko

Though the production values are fairly high PURE SHOCK VALUE is an absurdist script that will confound many, offend some due to the language and sexual actions, and please others due to its gutsy ”in your face telling it like it is.”

To see a full review of this show, read Roy Berko's blog here.

Kerry Clawson

Disclaimer: No Hollywood wannabes were killed in the making of the extreme black comedy PURE SHOCK VALUE at None Too Fragile Theater.  Set in Hollywood, playwright Matt Pelfrey’s 2009 satire of Tinseltown greed focuses on three young, desperate characters trying to break into the business. ... The audience went wild on opening night Friday, yelling out to characters as Pelfrey’s insanely funny story unfolded. Director Sean Derry’s talented cast of four dove fearlessly into the play’s completely over-the-top language and absurd sexual and violent situations.

To see a full review of this show, read Kerry Clawson's review here.

Christine Howey

Pelfrey’s quicksilver dialogue and Sean Derry’s fearless direction keep this manic, frequently hilarious, and often too-predictable comedy afloat just long enough to arrive at an ending that will leave you tumescent with joy…or limp from shock.

To see a full review of this show, read Christine Howey's review at  Cleveland Scene

Andrea Simakis

The production earns its guilty laughs - and they come with laxative-like frequency - thanks to the exquisite timing of a cast able to deliver rapid-fire dialogue laced with insider allusions, movie references and a cluelessness that only the entitled but undeserving share...

Less than a third of the way through the play "Bash: Latterday Plays,"  you feel sick to your stomach. And it doesn’t go away.  The Neil LaBute play, now playing at None Too Fragile Theater in the Merriman Valley, is a collection of dark one-act plays.

To see a full review of this show, read Kerry Clawson's review here.

Christine Howey

You could call it “The Book of Mormon: The Dark Side.” Because unlike the popular Broadway musical, this collection of three one-acts by Neil LaBute is a brutal and caustic journey into the black hole of our souls.
